I found external examining to be one of the most mentally exhausting jobs I did. Ideally, everyone involved in the process should feel that the outcome of assessment is just. Trying to ensure that outcome is where the energy goes.

I had the role of external examiner as listed below:

…… in 1975 and from 1979 to ‘81 for the renowned Studio Pottery Course at Harrow.

….. from 1974 to 1978 the BA (Hons) course in Ceramics at Ulster Polytechnic (now Ulster University) and again in the ‘90s.

….. from 1979 to 1983 the BA (Hons) Wood Metal Plastics and Ceramics course at Brighton Polytechnic (now University).

…… from 1980 to 1981 and from 1985 to 1989 the Post Graduate Diploma in Ceramics course at Goldsmiths College, University of London.

….. from 1980 to 1984 the Diploma in Ceramics course at Limerick College of Art and Design, Republic of Ireland

….. from 1983 to 1986 the MA Design (Ceramics) course at North Staffordshire Polytechnic (now University)

….. from 1984 to 1987 the BA (Hons) Ceramics course at West Surrey College of Art and Design, Farnham (now part of the University of the Creative Arts)

….. from 1989 to 1993 BA (Hons) Ceramics course at Bristol Polytechnic (now University of the West of England)
