CONSULTANCY in EDUCATION and RELATED WORK
From 1978 to 1984 I was a panel member of the CNAA (Council for National Academic Awards) three-dimensional design board whose role was to assess and validate courses, and I was retained as an adviser for institutional, rather than course, visits and validations until 1987.

In 1981 I acted as Course Consultant for the Three-dimensional Design department of Ulster Polytechnic during their merger discussions with Ulster University.

In 1984 I acted as external advisor for the internal evaluation exercise for the Ceramics course at Camberwell School of Arts and Crafts, prior to the school’s amalgamation into the London Institute (now University of the Arts).

From 1986 to 1991 I was a Management Committee member for Prema Arts Centre, Uley, Gloucestershire.

In 1987 I was the invited foreign jury member for ASK, the Association of Swiss Potters, during selection for their Biennial Exhibition in Bern.

In 1990 the late Pierfrancesco Ferroni, the founder and owner of a gallery devoted to modern ceramics in central Bologna, had responded to an idea proposed to him by Pietro Maddalena to have an exhibition of British ceramics. I was asked to propose a list of participants to show the quality and diversity of work in Britain and to help in the initial stages of making contact. When it was clear the project would materialize I was asked to write a catalogue introduction and brief profiles of the participants. The exhibition “14 British Potters” occurred in 1991 and was a success but, tragically, Pierfrancesco, while he was planning follow up shows, was killed in a motorway accident.

In 2001 I was sent to Nagoya University in Japan, with which Brighton University is twinned, as a representative of the School of Design and Architecture, to award prizes.
